Volunteer Information

Reach the Beach WA relies on the dedication of our volunteers, with opportunities available throughout the weekend.

The Right Volunteer Opportunities for You

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us! We are looking forward to Reach the Beach WA 2025. This event would not be possible without our dedicated volunteers. Listed below are the volunteer task descriptions, frequently asked questions, and additional resources.

Have questions or need more information?
Please contact Portia Wilder at Portia.Wilder@Lung.org

Be a part of the backbone of the event by assisting with a variety of tasks, including:

  • Setting up and cleaning event spaces
  • Supporting food handlers and sandwich artisans in preparing and distributing refreshments
  • Assisting cheerleaders in creating signs or organizing cheering stations
  • Guiding participants to starting points or rest stops
  • Providing general assistance wherever needed to ensure the event runs seamlessly.

As a Mechanic Volunteer at Reach the Beach WA, you’ll play a vital role in supporting our riders on their journey. Wearing a bib that identifies you as a mechanic, you’ll be a trusted resource for participants, helping with basic bike repairs and adjustments along the route. We ask that you carry your own tools and supplies, which can be reimbursed if used during the event. Your expertise and support will ensure riders can continue their ride safely and with confidence, making you an essential part of their Reach the Beach experience.

SAG drivers will drive and monitor a specific section of the Remove Trek route each day. A Ham Radio Operator will be assigned to ride with you and to provide communication with other SAG vehicles, rest stops, medical support, and the finish line.

SAG vehicles will be equipped with a bike rack to transport cyclists and their bike forward to the next rest stop for mechanical or medical assistance as needed. When volunteering as a SAG driver your shift is from 7am- 4p each day.

As a Medic Volunteer Rider at Reach the Beach WA, you’ll provide essential support to fellow cyclists in need. In this role, you’ll assist riders in distress by offering basic first aid, such as band-aids or other supplies, and helping to contact emergency medical assistance if necessary. You’ll receive a bib and safety vest to ensure you’re easily identified along the route. Your readiness to help and quick response will contribute to a safe and supportive experience for all participants.

Ham Radio Operators are the main form of communication between route-based volunteers and the finish line during event weekend. You will be providing information and updates on the status of riders, rest stops, and other Remove trek vehicles through your radio. HAM radio operators are placed along the route, at rest stops, and in SAG vehicles with SAG drivers. If you are at a rest stop location, you will remain at the rest stop from when it opens until it closes each day. You will receive more scheduling and assignment information from your Reach the Beach staff before event weekend.

If you are volunteering with a specific group, such as HAM, SAG, Route Ambassador, Shuttles, or Route Marshal, please plan to report directly to your assigned location and check in with your volunteer lead. Your lead will contact you before the event.

We welcome all ages and often have families volunteer together! Volunteers under the age of 18 must  have a parent or guardian volunteering with them.
