Volunteer medical personnel will be on-hand to provide basic medical services. In case of emergency, support vehicles will provide transportation for medical care. However, you’ll be responsible for the cost of medical care and transportation beyond the emergency services provided by our volunteer medical personnel.

Checkpoints with volunteers are set up roughly every 10 to 20 miles. Take a break, use the restroom, snap a team photo, refill your water and refuel with plenty of snacks and other refreshments!

It’s a good idea to get your bike tuned up a few weeks before the ride. Since it is a weekend-long event, the Trek isn’t a great time to try out a new bike or make major modifications to your current one. That said, there will be mechanics on-site and SAG vehicles along the route ready to assist and provide basic repairs when possible. Just keep in mind that you may be asked to pay for the cost of parts. It’s also a good idea to carry some basic tools and equipment with you for minor repairs, such as a flat tire.

Overnight accommodations at Camp Burgess are provided for two and three-day riders (included in your fundraising minimum). Cabins are equipped with electricity and have restrooms and showers located nearby. Participants are welcome to coordinate their own lodging, but transportation to and from offsite accommodations will not be provided by the American Lung Association.

Visit our FAQ page for more information on what we recommend you bring with you to the ride.

Volunteer personnel are available along the route each day of the ride. They’re there to assist you and make sure the route is as safe and well-marked as possible. If you need assistance, simply raise your hand high with a closed fist and a support vehicle will be over to help you. Our SAG, medical and mechanical phone numbers will also be printed on the back of your bib. Make sure to also stick to the marked route. It’ll make the Sweep Captain’s job easier!

Participants will start and end with the group on Saturday, taking off to our 32 mile gravel option which will have its own rest stop. Gravel ride route info can be found here and questions can be directed to AEBT@lung.org.

  • Ride Type: Pavement, gravel & mixed terrain ride for your gravel, adventure, or light weight hard tail mountain bike (any bike with 35mm or wider tires).
  • Navigation: Tackling the Dirt route without a GPS is not recommended. Old fashioned route notes do not work as most of the dirt roads and paths have no signage. Please download the route (and test the mapping) into your GPS devise or plan to stay in a group where folks know where they are going. It is a bad idea to use this ride as a learning introduction into navigating with a GPS devise. Practice makes perfect!
  • Course Layout: (Roughly) One half the course is paved, on some of the most quiet and scenic cape roads, one quarter is gravel road and one quarter is gravel paths. Some of the path sections are littered with roots and there are a couple gravel road sections with some loose rocks. There is one uphill (about 50 yds. long) that will need to be walked and a couple others that may have to be walked. We are on the Cape and there is some sand, depending on the level of moisture these sections could require walking. On our Route Manager’s latest spring practice loop, they were all rideable on 36mm tires.
  • Expected Pace: Riders should average between 5 and 15 mph. Total time for ride will be between two and a half and six hours. Groups will form based on riders ability and how much they want to enjoy the scenery and surroundings. The overall ride will be based on a no drop format.
  • Rider Support: We plan to have a volunteer group leader with each 10 or so riders. Riders will be free to go on their own but they will need to be responsible for their navigation and mechanics (though SAG vehicles will still be reachable via phone number on the back of your bib). The course will not be marked. We will have one official rest stop with drinks and snacks. There are other resources available near the route. (Gas stations, mini- marts, etc.)
